Here’s some important terminology: 

• Power Train: This refers to parts of the vehicle that create and deliver power — namely the transmission and engine.
• Horsepower: This is the amount of energy that the vehicle’s engine produces.
• Torque: Measures strength of the engine and the amount of time it takes to transmit power to the wheels.
• Spark Plug: This is what ignites the combustion that powers your engine when you turn the key in the ignition.
• Undercarriage: This is the underside of an automobile — it’s the framework that supports the rest of the vehicle.
• Auto Hesitation: A problem that occurs when a vehicle doesn’t accelerate as quickly or as smoothly as it should.
• Rough Idle: This is when your vehicle’s engine vibrates and rattles while it’s parked and running.
• Flooded Engine: This is when too much fuel floods the cylinders — it usually makes it difficult to start the vehicle. 

Understanding this terminology will ensure that you’re savvy about all things auto.
