Nobody likes a tense situation.
But a tension headache is even worse…
A tension headache is the most common type of headache, and victims experience varying degrees of pain behind their eyes and forehead.
Now, confession…
Doctors aren't precisely sure how tension headaches are caused, but there is strong evidence to suggest that tension headaches are linked to muscle tension in the neck or head, as well as to poor posture.
Tension headaches may also be caused by abnormalities in your brain's central pain processing.
Genetic factors, too, are believed to play a part in our susceptibility to tension headaches.
Some common triggers include:
- Stress
- Alcohol
- Dental issues
- Eye strain
- Fatigue
- Smoking
- Dry eyes
- Cold or flu
- Migraines
- Sinus infections
- Caffeine
- Poor posture
- Lack of water
- Lack of sleep
- Skipping meals
Since these are so darn common, we want you to know what you might do to treat your headaches.
First, pound back the water.
Next, make sure you are getting enough sleep.
If you skipped a meal today, make sure you get caught up.
If none of these work, try taking some Ibuprofen or aspirin – but be careful to remain within the recommended dosage.
And if NONE of these work, we encourage you to book a consultation with us as soon as possible to verify that there is not something more serious amiss.
