Today, we’d like to touch on Spinal Manipulation Therapy.
No, {{contact.first_name}}, it's not the name of a heavy metal band – it's one of our favorite types of chiropractic care, and one of the best methods available for treating back pain.
Spinal manipulation therapy (SMT), as the name suggests, treats back pain, neck pain, and other musculoskeletal conditions through the application of force to special joints.
This application of force can treat dysfunctional areas in the spine and restore its structural integrity.
When this integrity is stored, pain is reduced, and the body is able to initiate its natural healing processes.
To determine if SMT is right for you, doctors use clinical prediction rules – patients should fit at least four of these five criteria:
- Pain lasting less than 16 days
- No symptoms to the knee
- FABQ score of less than 19
- Hypermobility of at least one level of the lumbar spine
- Internal rotation of more than 35 degrees for at least one hip
If you are feeling a bit stiff in the neck, and would like to know if you qualify for SMT treatment, we encourage you to respond directly to this email for further information :)
