For debtors, there are a variety of available mechanisms for improving credit, including partnership with credit repair services.
There is, however, one important step that precedes everything else when it comes to credit repair:
Checking your credit report…
A detailed breakdown of your credit history, drafted by a credit bureau.
Credit bureaus look at a variety of information when assigning your score, including personal info – like your current and previous addresses, employment history, and social security number.
A typical credit report contains the following:
- the number of credit card accounts you have
- the status of repayment
- your credit limits
- balances
- how long you have been using your cards
Negative information such as bankruptcies, home foreclosures, and repossessions are also included on these reports and will remain there for 2-10 years, depending on the nature of the ‘offense.’
Now, with a full understanding of your credit report, you will be able to isolate any problem areas affecting your credit score.
Once you’ve reviewed your report, should you notice any negative information, we recommend that you consult with a professional on steps you can take to remove that information.
