So, {{contact.first_name}}, you’re looking to bulk up through a bit of weight training?
This is a world otherwise known as…
Pumping iron!
Those who venture down the rabbit hole find pumping iron passionately exciting, but to those still looking in from above, pumping iron may seem intimidating, even dangerous.
We can’t stress the enough:
It is imperative you secure instruction on proper technique…
From a personal trainer or by watching some videos online from a trusted source.
If it hurts – stop immediately, take a rest, consider reducing the weight, and review your technique.
That said, here are some things to think about next time you have the appetite for ‘iron’. Let’s call them the ‘nevers.’
First, never skip your warmup.
Cold muscles are more prone to injury, so take 10 minutes for power walking or aerobic exercise before you begin to lift.
Next, never rush your movements.
Every lift should be slow and in control – borrowing momentum from speed cheats your muscles.
Next, never hold your breath while weightlifting.
Breathe out as you lift and breathe in as you lower the weight.
And please – don't overdo it.
Doing one set to the point of reaching fatigue is normally enough for most people's fitness goals.
Instead of relentlessly working one muscle, try to use a variety of techniques to cover a more vast area of your body.
Lastly, never skip leg day, and never fail to rest when appropriate.
When weightlifting, you create small tears in the muscle, which then heal and come back larger and stronger than before.
If you don’t give yourself time to rest, your body never has the chance to heal these tears, and you just end up sore – instead of swole.
Happy pumping!
