Word on the street is that you’ve been leaving your air vents closed, {{contact.first_name}}.
Kidding – we don’t know if that’s true.
But still, it helps us make a point, namely that despite popular belief, leaving one’s air vents closed is not the best idea.
Some folks reckon it will help them save on their energy bills.
Seems to make sense, right?
Close vents that aren’t in use, and you’ll save energy…
But, in reality, doing so will cost you more in the end.
When you close your vents, even just a few of them, you are increasing the amount of air pressure within the ducts.
The typical home already loses between 20-30% of conditioned air through duct leaks – closing the vents only wastes more air.
And, if your system uses a PSC blower motor, the added pressure from the closed vents requires the motor to work harder…
Which will, naturally, cost you more in energy bills as you inevitably turn up the thermostat when the house is feeling hotter than it should.
If, on the other hand, your system uses a ECM blower motor, it will be able to compensate for the added pressure in the vents, but still with a higher consumption of energy.
So, at the end of the day, we’re all cons and no pros…
Keep those vents open!
Now, if you have been in the habit of keeping some of your air vents closed, here’s what we recommend:
