• Stocks: Represent small shares of a company — so when you buy a stock, you essentially own a piece of that company.
• Mutual Funds: These are pools of funds from multiple investors — professional portfolio managers use these funds to buy various securities.
• Money Market Funds: A type of mutual fund that invests in high-quality, short-term debt instruments, cash, and cash-equivalent securities. These funds are considered low-risk investments.
• Capital Gain: A fun one — this is a profit or return you make from an investment. For example, if you buy a stock share for $500, and then sell it for $1100, you make a capital gain of $600.

Understanding this terminology will ensure that you’re in-the-know about your own investments.
