What comes to mind when you hear the words “life coach”?
We ask because we know that lifestyle coaching can be somewhat of a mystery if you’ve never tried it before.
You may have preconceived notions or misunderstandings when it comes to what life coaching is all about.
We hope that with our many years in the life coaching biz, we can clear up what it is — and isn’t.
So without further adieu, here are the most common myths about lifestyle coaching:
Myth #1: Life coaches have all the answers
Contrary to popular belief, lifestyle coaches aren’t all-knowing beings.
Disappointing, we know.
Life coaches are guides who are there to help you reach your goals.
A good coach won’t claim to have all the answers — they will ask the right questions to identify what areas need improvement, and will challenge you to maximize your potential.
Myth #2: Life coaches are just therapists
You’ve probably heard this one before.
While the coaching process itself may be therapeutic, it is a far cry from actual therapy.
Therapists are trained professionals who help you process your past — and, by extension, bring you to a fully-functioning place in the present.
Coaches on the other hand, meet you at that functional place and help you figure out where to go from there.
Myth #3: Successful people don’t need coaches
Fun fact for you:
As it turns out, coaching first caught on with business owners, movie stars, and high-level executives — the very people we consider the pinnacle of success.
How ironic!
When we are learning new skills or trying different things, we seek guidance and support from those with experience — that’s what coaching is all about!
So if you find yourself falling for this myth, just think about it:
How do you think they got so successful in the first place? ;)
