What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness involves focusing our attention on what we’re currently experiencing without judgment.
By practicing mindfulness, we can explore our curiosities about how our minds and bodies work.
In turn, we can approach new experiences gently and kindly.
And when we’re mindful, we’re present, insightful, aware, and attentive.
Similarly, mindful eating is a technique that helps us gain control over our eating behaviors and habits.
When we eat mindfully, we become aware of the emotional and physical sensations associated with eating.
We can evaluate our mindful eating according to these behaviors:
- Eating past full.
- Eating when sad or stressed (emotional eating)
- Eating when distracted.
- Eating in response to environmental cues (such as the smell of food).
- Being aware of how food looks, tastes, and smells.
By eating mindfully, we slow down and restore our attention.
This makes eating an intentional act instead of an automatic or thoughtless one.

P.S.
A tip we’ve recently discovered that really helps make your eating more mindful is to just put down the fork, or the spoon, or the burger when chewing – this will help pause the anticipation of the ‘next bite’.
