Health and wellness are terms that are often used interchangeably.
And it makes sense why — they’re both essential to our overall well-being.
But there’s actually some key differences between them.
Health is a state of physical, mental, and social well-being; health does not just refer to the absence of illness or disease.
By contrast, wellness is an active process of increasing awareness and making healthier choices toward a fulfilling and balanced life.
There are eight key components to wellness:
- Physical
- Intellectual
- Emotional
- Social
- Spiritual
- Vocational
- Financial
- Environmental
Each component of wellness needs our attention for us to thrive.
Sounds easy enough, right?
Maybe not.
We live in a world that constantly challenges us to do and be more.
And amid all the hustle and bustle, we inevitably put our self-care on the back burner.
This is a mistake.
Self-care is critical for maintaining an optimal level of wellness, and wellness is essential for living a quality life.
It’s a continuous circle.
As such, reaching optimal wellness is crucial in order to decrease stress and ensure positive relationships and interactions.
