You’ve fallen down the physical recovery rabbit hole, and now you’re wondering:
What is the difference between acute and chronic pain, and how can physiotherapy help?
We’re happy you asked!
Truthfully, the two are similar: they both hurt, and no one wants to deal with them.
However, they have some distinct differences that impact recovery plans.
From our experience, acute pain is an abrupt sensation that alerts us to a possible injury.
Acute pain is short term, and the cause is easier to identify.
This means that it is typically resolved in fewer physiotherapy treatments.
Chronic pain, on the other hand, persists beyond the standard healing time of an injury.
Chronic pain does not always serve a purpose.
As such, physiotherapy treatments will most likely focus on management.
Whether you’re worried about acute or chronic pain, physiotherapy can help!
