You’ve been counting down the days on your calendar ever since you pulled the trigger.
With each day that passes, the excitement grows, until it's almost overwhelming.
All you can think about are the wonderful things you’ll do once you're there.
Finally, you reach the day you’ve been waiting for:
Time to move into your new home!
But wait a second {{contact.first_name}} – you actually have to physically move in.
Ouch – that's a lot of heavy lifting.
We’d like to give you the low-down on moving, so you can be done with it as quickly and as easily as possible, and start living your dream life in your dream home!
It all starts with preparation.
The first thing you can do, before you even start to pack away all of your things, is declutter your space.
Spend some time getting rid of the unnecessary items you've picked up over the years.
We hear this is a wonderful opportunity to reminisce as you start your new chapter.
Next, you can create a moving folder. This is where you will store all of your rental or purchase papers, new addresses, moving contracts, or any other paperwork related to the move.
You should also consider packing well in advance of the move – the more time you give yourself the better. You can start with off-season items, and things you won't be using until well after the move.
If you are hiring movers, renting equipment/supplies, or hiring any contractors, you should also be booking these well in advance. Sleeping on this could result in higher costs or, worse, not being able to find help at all.
It would also be wise to ensure all of your utilities in your new home are functional and serviced before the move in date.
Moving in only to realize you have no electricity would be a major pain indeed.
Keep some essentials in a separate bag which can be accessed easily during the move. Think about what items you would need to get by if everything went wrong and the moving truck went missing – that's what would be considered essential.
Finally, leading up to the move, go out and get some supplies. We’re talking about the kind of stuff you will use during the process, like box cutters, permanent markers, adhesive bandages, packing tape, garbage bags, and paper towels.
If you follow these tips, you should be able to save yourself a lot of time, money and stress when moving day arrives.
Happy packing!
